Millie Fagan Craven was the fourth child born to Rafe and Josephine Fagan. She married into a large and loving family and raised her children in Louisiana. Millie “Big Momma” Craven married Fred “Big Daddy” Craven. Into this union was born three (3) sons: Richard Craven (1924), Fred Craven, Jr (1926), and Sam Craven (1927) and seven (7) daughters: Josephine Craven Powell (1913), Maryella Craven Hughes (1916), Mariah Craven (1918), Louise Craven (1919), Feddie Mae Craven Holman (1921), Willie Mae Craven Johnson (1923), and Mary Alice Craven McKennery (1930).
Fred Craven, Sr. was affectionately known as “Big Daddy: and lived from December 12, 1892 – March 1981.
The couple shared an important motto that was passed down to their children. “1st pay off land based on money raised from farming.” This was the true entrepreneurial mind sight that was often passed down from the siblings to the grandchildren in an effort to raise independent and self-sufficient next generation.
